Mia Mathewson is a student at Joseph A. Foran High School preparing to enter her junior year. With aspirations of becoming a pediatric anesthesiologist, Mia hopes to combine her passion for helping children with a future in medicine and service.

Through her Community Service Initiative, Wears Love: Fashioning Confidence, Mia empowers teens to feel confident, seen, and valued through clothing and fashion. In partnership with Dress for Success and Brave Gowns, she has expanded the initiative’s reach, providing clothing, encouragement, and support to individuals of all ages.

​

Mia is also a published children’s book author. Her book, Bella’s Berry Bad Ballet Day, was inspired by picking strawberries with her great-grandmother and reflects her belief that even difficult days can be transformed into something beautiful.

As Miss Connecticut Teen, Mia is passionate about using her voice and platform to inspire young people to embrace their individuality, lead with compassion, and make a positive impact in their communities. She hopes to use her year of service to connect with others, encourage young people to believe in themselves, and remind them that even small acts of kindness can create lasting change.

As a proud military daughter, Mia’s story is deeply shaped by her family’s commitment to service. Her father was deployed to Iraq just three days after she was born, an experience that has influenced her resilience, adaptability, and deep appreciation for military families and the sacrifices they make.

Through her academics, community service, writing, and role as Miss Connecticut Teen, Mia continues to pursue her passion for making others feel seen, supported, and empowered.
